The Cafe Among Books: Copenhagen, Denmark

November 25, 2014

Step inside of this cafe in the center of Copenhagen’s bustling city, and you’ll immediately feel as though you’ve stepped into a library. Paludan Book and Cafe has a very intimate atmosphere, yet is still hip and trendy. Tables are situated in between shelves of books. This cafe offers a wide variety of seating, from the cozy two person high table, to regular four person tables, to a couch and a coffee table, as if you’re in your own living room.

Paludan Book and Cafe

Paludan was originally a book store, but soon after added the cafe. Their food is delicious, as well. They have food that caters to vegetarians as well as meat-lovers, and offer anything from sandwiches, to salads, to pasta dishes. Paludan also serves breakfast, so it is a perfect choice for any part of the day. I’ve had the goat cheese and beef burger multiple times- a huge serving, reasonable price, and will disappear off your plate before you even realize it!

Paludan offers delicious coffee as well, from filter coffee to cappuccinos to espressos.

Paludan Book and Cafe

Paludan’s atmosphere is what the Danes call “hygge,” or, cozy and relaxed. It is the word that the Danes use to get through the darkness of winter, and is characterized by candles, good drinks, friends, and a snug ambiance, all of which Paludan has to offer. The cafe is first come first serve seating, so it may be a bit difficult to get a seat during a busy part of the day, however, is well worth the wait. When you sit down in Paludan, you will get lost in the sea of books and delightful food, and hours will pass before you realize it.
